ROLE IMPACT
The Library Public Service Specialist I plays a vital role in promoting access to information, literacy, and community engagement through responsive customer service. This position ensures library patrons receive personalized support for reference inquiries, technology use, and material selection while also contributing to programming and outreach initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide reference assistance using library catalogs, digital content, and the Internet
• Support patrons with computer use, job searching, and library procedures
• Facilitate material discovery and offer media recommendations
• Develop displays, reading lists, and program presentations
• Participate in programming and outreach under team direction
• Maintain library cleanliness, organization, and opening/closing procedures
• Travel between locations as required for staffing support
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• High School diploma or GED required
• 2 years of direct customer service or library services experience
• Ability to interact professionally with diverse patrons of all ages
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, library catalogs, and downloadable content

PREFERRED SKILLS
• Spanish or other multilingual fluency
