JOB TITLE:   Intensive Shelter Worker

Tentative hours : Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm,

Job Type: Full-time Permanent Position, with a Benefit Package after probation

Salary: $44,646 per year

oneROOF Youth Services is a multi-service agency for youth (12-25) experiencing or at-risk of homelessness in the Waterloo Region. Our services include meeting basic needs, outreach, street-to-housing support services, family reconnect support, mental health, and addictions support/services, providing harm reduction supplies, daytime services, food hampers, and emergency shelter.

Job Skills, Duties & Responsibilities:

• Housing-focused shelter worker with a minor focus on employment and education
• Educating clients and staff on housing rights, legalities, etc.
• Attending and educating youth on housing meetings, appointments, and viewings
• Actively searching for and applying for housing with clients
• Actively applying for housing with clients
• BAMR’s, CHAC, Supportive Housing Buildings, etc. 
• Employment focus (minor)
• Assisting with the creation of a resume, cover letter, interview preparation, etc.
• Assisting with the creation of materials for client success
• Education focus (minor)
• Assisting with finding educational opportunities for clients as well as providing information, referrals, and more as needed
• Act as a caseworker
• Assistance to client needs - getting ID, income, YAP/SPDAT assessments, legal aid, refugee applications, OSAP, etc. 
• Coordinate with the casework team to ensure that the youth are being tended to and that goals are being met.

 

• Assist with addressing and working towards client goals
• Make appropriate referrals for clients based on their goals, income, employment, and education
• Meet youth where they are at
• Assist with conducting intakes for PAR services
• Creation of documents and paperwork for an easier accessible system 
• Filing system for necessary documents 
• Community partner and maintaining consistent communication
• OW, Starling, NSH/MOH, Employment Ontario, etc. 
• Creation of housing-focused sessions and training/educational programming
• Life Skills, tenant rights, housing rights, etc. 
• Creating programming for clients
• Connecting with other programming opportunities/organizations to come in
• Ongoing statistics documentation as per role needs
• Coordination of Out-of-Region (OOR) and Short-Term Contracts (STC) of clients in shelter
• Coordination of a student placement at times during the year 
• Other tasks assigned

Educational and Employment assets/requirements

· A relevant degree/diploma in Community Social Services, psychology, social work, or related discipline, as well as relevant work experience, is preferred.

· Experience working with at-risk youth and/or vulnerable populations.

· Experience with the Housing First model.

· Knowledge of community resources and local mental health, educational, and youth justice systems and services would be beneficial.

· An ability to engage and motivate youth.

· Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are required.

· Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team-oriented environment

· Must have a valid First Aid and CPR certification

• Must produce a recent Vulnerable Sector and Criminal Record Check
