Environmental Compliance Engineer II

Job Summary

The Compliance Engineer II position obtains and administers environmental permits; reviews all report submissions; manages environmental projects; ensures environmental regulatory compliance with federal, state and local requirements and tracks environmental laws. Responsible for maintaining environmental compliance programs that comply with environmental policies and procedures related to wastewater, air permits, hazardous material spills, storm water, radioactive devices and hazardous and non-hazardous waste generation. The Environmental Compliance Engineer II will support Niagara's expansion efforts by participating in construction meetings, providing relevant feedback to TMs concerning environmental compliance requirements and working cooperatively with local municipal agencies regarding compliance programs and permitting.

Detailed Description
  • Develop and implement environmental policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state and local regulations within the context of Niagara's goals, strategic plans and budget constraints.
  • Maintains and updates permits for compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Has a good understanding of air quality regulations (NAAQS), source testing and air permitting.
  • Act as the liaison with external environmental agencies such as U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Pretreatment Programs and Federal, state and local agencies.
  • Research and analyze documents, laws, restrictions, proposed environmental rule makings, EPA records, sample results and other reports and determine whether corrective action or further study is warranted and/or recommend actions, policies, and procedures to facilitate compliance.
  • Profiles and makes determinations regarding waste handling (hazardous and non-hazardous). Takes samples, determines proper laboratory analysis, analyzes laboratory reports, determines waste codes and shipping descriptions, prepares waste for shipment according to federal, state and local regulations.
  • Conducts environmental compliance inspections at each facility to verify plant operations are in accordance with environmental permits and Niagara policies.
  • Develops programs to reduce waste generation and to initiate recycling.
  • Update and maintain storm water management plans including inspections and permit compliance reports.
  • Create and maintain SPCC plans for both chemical and petroleum spills.
  • Manage the entire wastewater process from initial permitting and setting up labs to coordinating and reviewing all wastewater monitoring data and reports.
  • Acts as emergency coordinator in case of hazardous material spills. Advises and coordinates spill response activity.
  • Improve and manage environmental compliance data collection, monitoring instrumentation, and standard operating procedures
  • Oversee and manage complete environmental projects in accordance to Niagara policies
  • Work closely with Project Engineering, Sustainability, Manufacturing, and Procurement teams, as well Niagara contractors and vendors on plant BTS construction and existing plant expansion.
  • Create detailed technical reports and business presentations to company management
  • Recommends cost-effective solutions to complex problems. Develops and conducts Niagara's environmental training onboarding programs.
  • Tracks hazardous and non-hazardous waste generation, storage and disposal as required by law. Maintains all records associated with hazardous waste generation including manifests, LDR''s, waste profiles, monthly accumulation logs, and inspection reports.
